Wireless Networks

Revolution Computer Systems offer total wireless networking solutions, including both inner office and point to point connections.  A wireless network connection is exactly the same as a wired connection to your network - except you have the mobility to move from area to area without being tethered to wires.  Point to Point wireless connections are ideal for companies needing to network remote offices located in the same general vicinity.

The relatively common wireless networking topology  is called 802.11b, also known as Wireless. This topology connects computers together without wires. Wireless networks are currently the fastest growing type of networks in the U.S. because users can set them up without running cables between their computers. They also allow a user with a laptop the freedom to roam about his house, or in some cases, their front or backyard, and still maintain access to the Internet and the rest of his network. This solution is more elegant than Ethernet when the computers are far apart from each other or from the cable modem.

First, a look at local area wireless networks...

Access Points and Bridge Routers
These devices are the data transfer stations in the network. They operate just like a hub in a wired network, connecting multiple computers and devices together, but without wires. They also provide a bridge between the wireless network and a previously existing wired network. Bridge routers are access points that also provide a connection for a high-speed modem and basic routing capability for several computers.

Client Adapters: PC cards, USB devices and modules
Wired or wireless, every network uses adapters. Whether they are removable cards for notebooks or USB adapters for desktops, they are the link between the computer and the network. If you have hardware already integrated with a wireless adapter like many new laptops featuring Intel Centrino Mobile Technology, you will not need a separate adapter.

Who uses wireless networks, anyway?

  • Homes with 2 or more computers

  • Small Businesses

  • Corporate Campuses

  • Students, Schools & Colleges

  • Government Agencies

Now, let's take a look at the advantages of point to point wireless networks...

Often times, you may have two offices, or an office and another building, that you would like to offer connectivity to your network.  You can use a leased line connection, from the telephone company, however, the monthly costs may not justify the need.  Wireless point to point networking allows you connect the two offices using wireless equipment, purchased by you for a one time cost, hense eliminating the monthly telco fees.  Here is an example of how it can work for you:
